Flash pieces on which I spent a little more time

These are a few pieces that I decided to spend some extra time on once I got some rudimentary shading down pat. All images were picked out of tattoo magazines, they are quite common in traditional style.
This one is an old Sailor Jerry image. I spend a lot of time looking at his art work because he had a great style and there was depth to his tattoos. This piece is of the rock of ages being attacked by a dragon in the Japanese style. It is a depiction of pearl harbour, and the original has a pair of sharks attacking the dragon from the water at the bottom.

This is an old piece of flash that's been done a million ways. To me its a reminder to stay sharp.

Nice n Loose dragon. The thick final line from my pen hides some mistakes.

More exercise with the gradient work. The hair was fun to do. I love doing the human body and want to learn more and more.

Practice, practice, in the hope that one day I will create something to frame and hang in my workstation.

First watercolour tattoo flash

These are some of my first attempts at spit shading with watercolours. I breezed through a few quick sketches, got the outline down and started laying out some black paint. I tried to stay super loose just to get them out on the page.

Second piece, putting it down quick and dirty.

Third piece, Old Dirty Bastard, RIP, and kitten.

Experimenting with colours, still super loose.

Some solid colours, and shading.

Letting myself make a lot of mistakes. Quantity over quality, feels good to finish a quick piece and start new stuff. I like to get through some quick hurdles like this.

Sketch Exersizes

These are some sketches I did to get into traditional flash style and to get back into drawing regularly. After my last semester in business school I decided to spend my free time on art because its the best rest for my brain after writing essays and doing case studies. I try to stay focused on completing the whole piece rather than perfecting small details.
Hands are the hardest. Feet too. Hell, the human body is the hardest thing to draw.
I was dreading starting this eye piece because its so repetitive and symmetrical. I just tell myself that its all exercise and its got to be done.

I love doing faces and expanding on my knowledge of anatomy. I find it easy to remain interested in drawing faces over and over, they're always different.
